Around 100 dogs descended upon a cocktail bar in Preston over the weekend to party with their furry friends.

As many as 200 dogs and their humans could descend on Ipswich town centre later this month as an a-paw-able event comes to Suffolk for the first time.

Pup Up Café, a popular event for dogs across much of the UK, will set up at Revolution, behind the Buttermarket shopping centre, on June 25.

The organiser promised unlimited doggy treats and ‘Puppucinos’, as well as various activities and the opportunity for photographs for owners of dachshunds, pugs, frenchies and any cross-breeds.

Marcus Ackford, the organiser, said he started the event as he wanted to create a fun environment where people can get together and have a good time.

The 29-year-old said: “We visit most cities and large towns in the UK, and Ipswich was one of the last remaining ones we’d not visited.

“We’re super excited to be able to create this space where dog lovers can chill and enjoy a day out, with the chance to let their pups off the lead.”

Marcus said Pup Up Café first got its start in Exeter in 2018.

He previously worked in events management, and also spent some time in the pet industry.

He wanted a way to merge the two.

Whilst the event will primarily be for dachshunds, frenchies and pugs, dog owners should be aware they can also bring dogs of another breed along.

The full list of allowed breeds can be found on Pup Up Cafés website.

Marcus said: “Many people my age are not having children and instead chose to get dogs!” “It’ll be nice to have a big open space for a few hours of fun.”

The dachshund event will run from 10am to 1.30pm, whilst the pug and frenchie event will run from 2pm until 3.30pm.

Attendees need to book a time slot to attend, which will usually be displayed on the ticket.

Tickets can be booked on the Pup Up Café website.
